TAP TO CALL

in the beginning

Many of us give little thought to home wiring when we purchase a new home or commercial property, and assume that the builder installed whatever is needed for the telephone and TV while the building is being built. That’s where we come in.

During the new construction phase, we can install wiring for electric appliances, indoor/outdoor lighting, audio, internet, automation, security, any of your electrical needs. Electrical wiring mistakes can be costly, so having the right, trained professionals do the work with all the necessary permits is top priority.

Our expert team of electricians in Nanaimo, BC. and Courtenay, BC. are well prepared, knowledgeable, and very familiar with the challenges our wet environment present to home and commercial properties.

Electrical Wiring

A residential or commercial retail building’s electrical system is more than just a bunch or wires. It is a complex system, carefully designed to deliver all the power needed for a modern life in the safest way possible. That’s why there are so many rules surrounding electrical wiring and installations.

For example, when wiring is easily accessible, it’s critical to conform to the regulations of electrical outlets and light fixtures using a wiring diagram to avoid costly mistakes and building code violations.

Automation

Home and business automation is an exciting option in today’s ever growing connected world. It can provide safety through cameras, motion detectors, and water leak sensors, or can add a layer of convenience and control through automatic lighting adjustments, remote access to the thermostat and more.

However, if only considered years after an building is completed, the features and options that come with hardwired integrations can be limited, and simply more expensive to retrofit after the fact. Installing home automation systems in newly constructed buildings is less complicated, bringing far more savings options.

Telephone

Telephones can be one of the most important items found in homes, but in today’s increasingly mobile world we often feel like we don’t need a landline, and that we can reach anyone we need via our smartphones. However, it is still used for a surprisingly large number of things.

In new construction builds we run the telephone wires and attach the new jacks before the drywall goes up.

Telephone wiring has been normally installed with category 3 wire. However, with the introduction of data communications and high speed internet, we usually opt for category 5 wiring.

Internet

Although wireless is simpler for a lot of people to use, multi-media sharing/streaming and critical business operations for things like payments require a hardwired connection which provides much higher bandwidth capabilities.

Only trained and experienced electricians should perform pre-wiring for new builds. Technical skills and knowledge prevent mistakes like routing ethernet or phone wiring along 120 VAC electric wiring, which creates interference and poor performance.

Television

Prewire installs of television cable by an experienced installer is often overlooked. For example, a crimped or kinked coaxial cable can attenuate the signal for both cable TV service, and high-speed data or internet.

Because high-speed internet services are a must today, separate coaxial cable is required for this connection as well. Layout and floor-plans should be factored in during this time, as cable jacks need to be available in some unconventional places you usually find for televisions. Usually, cable modems and routers should be in central locations, that offer the most efficient signal strength for users.

Lighting Design And Fixtures

Lighting is a central aspect of your interior design. Our experience and passion for lighting design in Nanaimo, Parksville, and Comox, BC. can fit your new home or business with the proper lighting and set the tone for an entire building or room. Good fixture design and accent lighting can be used to highlight specific features of a room such as architectural elements or artwork.

Distributed Audio (Multi-Room Audio)

Audio systems like multi-room audio are a big deal and they are certainly one of the more exciting aspects of thinking about the functionality and use of your home during the pre-construction phase.

Perfect for background music, multi room audio opens up a whole new way to enjoy music for any home or business. Many audio systems come with devices that connect your existing speakers, amps and other gear to your existing data network.

Wiring your audio correctly and with an eye on future possibilities is a big part of that consideration. For example, an IR control to adjust audio from anywhere in the house or business makes digital media music streaming even easier.
